Speed and agility are critical when playing lacrosse. Often called "the fastest game on two feet" lacrosse games are fast paced and the fastest and strongest players have an edge over slower competition. We have put together a summer program that is designed to help give players a competitive advantage during their seasons.

 

Lacrosse Component:

The Skills Sessions practice plans have been designed by Sean Murray. Sean was a High School All-State and All-American player and was the former Assistant Lacrosse Coach for Bishop Hendricken High School.

The sessions will be overseen by Kevin Murray, Head Coach at Bishop Hendricken High School, as well as current and former college lacrosse players. Skills sessions will include dodging, shooting, proper fundamental techniques, and all the necessary skills to help you excel on the field. Each week we will have enough coaches on hand to make sure players are getting the attention and instruciton they need.

 

Speed and Agility Component:

Roots Lacrosse Skills Sessions are designed to help players combine lacrosse skills with speed and agility work. We have teamed with Andrew Ferreira, a Harvard graduate, Minnesota Twins draft pick, and strength coach. Andrew has designed our speed and agility component and weight training add on as well. His knowledge and dedication have helped numerous athletes achieve their goals and we are excited to have him designing our Skills Sessions. The speed and agility component is specifically designed for lacrosse players in order to help them gain the necessary advantages needed to excel on the field.  

 

Andrew has also designed a lacrosse specific summer weight training program for players interested in weight training to gain another advantage on the competition. While you will be responsible for weight training on your own this program will help give you the right plan to gain the strength needed for lacrosse. Andrew will be available for consultation by phone or email with any questions you might have.

 

Ages: 

The program is open to players in grades K-12. We have designed the program with all ages in mind and have different lacrosse skills and speed and agility to work based on age and experience. Players will be split into 2 groups for both the lacrosse portion as well as the speed and agility component. 

 

Why Participate?

The summer is the time when players can separate themselves from the competition. While other players are sleeping in or at the beach the most dedicated players are mastering their skills. While practice is extremely important we know that many players have busy schedules and we kept that in mind when designing the program. We have set up "flex session" that can be bought and then redeemed when players are able to make the sessions. Below is a breakdown of how it works. 

 

Flex Session Costs:

5 Flex Sessions - $150 ($30 per session)

10 Flex Sessions - $275 ($27.50 per session)

15 Flex Sessions - $375 ($25 per session)

 

Dates:

Sessions will take place on select weekdays and Saturdays beginning July 3rd and ending August 28th. Players can come to as many as they would like but must let us know which they will be coming to at the beginning of every week so we can be sure to have the right amount of coaches on hand. 

 

Times and Locations:

**Please note that the days each week will be based on field availability so some weeks it may be all the listed days and other it may be only two. Each week will have at least one session and most will have two or three.** 

Tuesdays - 6:00 or 7:00 PM at Wide World of Indoor Sports - South in North Kingstown

Thursdays - 9:00-10:30 AM at Bishop Hendricken High School or nearby field in Warwick / Cranston area

Select Saturdays - Wide World of Indoor Sports - Times will vary

(Players will be split up based on age groups and times will be based on age groups)

 

Session Breakdown:

Lacrosse specific dynamic stretch and warm-up - 10 minutes

Lacrosse skills session - 40 minutes

Water break - 5 minutes

Lacrosse specific dynamic speed and agility work - 30 minutes

Final word and stretch - 5 minutes
